LA BOÎTE
THE BOX

Yes...I finally opened the box... On the previous post, there is a cigarette just beside the treasure. It was probably inside it. And the person who put it there has also put some matches. I don't know if Riel as a ghost still smokes... :) The last cigarette of a convict, maybe.... I think I also know the signification of the other objects, but I only make some hypothesis. The rope for the hanging. The pencil to write his will. The hemp braid could be the symbol of Metis Nation. There is also a wooden cross and some other things in the right corner. I think there are a few cents, but I did not want to move the objects too much... The person who had put there this offering must have had a great admiration for Louis Riel... I personnaly found it really touching!

This pin is the heraldry of Lt-Governor of Manitoba. In 1871, The Honourable Sir Adam George Archibald had a meeting with 200 Metis from St. Boniface who responded to this call, one of whom was Riel . This meeting lost him the support of the English populace of Red River, prompting his resignation in 1872.

Quelle belle offrande!

Goodness! I would have never guessed all that! What a find :)

Hmmm - I think the matches are a reference to Sir John A. MacDonald, who was prime minister at the time of Riel's uprising.

You snoop! heheeeee I would be very curious, also. If you went to New Orleans and bothered any of the gifts left at the tomb of Marie Laveau, though, you'd better watch your back...and front...and sides...and never close your eyes...and...oh, just don't do it!

Marie Laveau? I don't know her.... Will have to google... :)

This is great MP. It's a good thing it was not a voodoo box. Very sentimental offering.
