UN NID
A NEST

I took this pic of my parent's house in 1972. Back then, the big pine in front of it was still there. A few years later, a big branch broke and fell just beside my dad's car. So, at the end of the Seventies, the pine had to be cut. It was very old and had become dangerous. But then, the men who had cut the tree brought something that looked like a nest to my mom, asking her if she wanted to keep it. They had found it in the upper branches...

The structure was made with some copper threads, Those were put together to form a nest. It was very dirty, with some pine needles, some branches and some leaves. Mom cleaned it and a magnifiscent struture emerged! (The eggs are plastic eggs painted by my mother) :)

After having observed the nest for a some time, my parents thought that this beautiful work of art made with some interweaved copper threads had been made by a big and very ingenious bird. The woodpecker was still often seen in the big pines around our neighbourhood and was indeed an ingenious bird. The chickadees and the sparrows were too small to have made it, and the crows were not enough sophisticated.

Mais d'où venaient donc ces fils?
But where were those threads coming from?

In some places, one could see the copper oxydation.

Discovering some silk threads still present in the structure, my parents recognized old telephone cables. When the phone company had set up the new lines (in the Thirties, Forties or Fifties?), the workmen had probably left some bits of cables everywhere in the streets. And some ingenious birds had used them to build a nest... That nest was indeed very old... :)

What a magnificent structure and created by an intelligent creature. I always love learning about the behaviour of different species of birds, of course, the geese being my favorites. This is an antique nest. Wow indeed!

I think there are great souls in every species, Aravis... :)))

I believe in serendipitous events, CES... The falling branch, having the tree being cut and finally, discovering that beautiful nest... So I could show it on my blog.. :)Ok... years later... :)
