HISTOIRE DE TOURTERELLEA TURTLEDOVE STORY

Ceci est une histoire vrai qui s'est passée à l'été 2004. Mon amie Théo avait mis dans son garage une lampe torchère dont elle ne savait que faire. En mai, elle vit un jour arriver un couple de tourterelles avec quelques brindilles. En peu de temps, le nid était installé et les oeufs pondus. Il y avait visiblement urgence...Et les tourterelles passèrent tout l'été dans ce nid de fortune qu'elles semblaient d'ailleurs apprécier. Elles ont eu 3 portées de deux petits. Et elles ont accepté de bonne grâce que nous les prenions en photo, que nous les filmions et que nous les observions. En août les tourterelles disparurent. Elles étaient parties pour l'hiver. Ma copine Théo a revu le petit couple à l'été 2005. Il est venu vérifier si la lampe était toujours là. Mais Théo l'avait jetée... Les tourterelles ont dû pondre leur oeufs ailleurs...

This is a true story which occurred during the Summer of 2004. My friend Théo wanted to get rid of an old lamp and had put in her garage. One day, in May a couple of Turtle-doves arrived with some brushwood. In a few hours, the nest was installed and the eggs were laid. This was obviously an emergency... The turtle-doves spent all the summer in this simple nest that they seemed to appreciate. Three times they had two fledglings. And they willingly accepted that we took pictures of them, that we filmed them and that we observed them from a very short distance. In August the Turtle-doves disappeared. They had left for the winter. My friend Théo saw the small couple during the Summer of 2005. It came to check if the lamp was still there. But Théo had thrown it... The turtle-doves had to lay their eggs elsewhere...

POUR GINNIE: SOLARISATIONFOR GINNIE: SOLARIZATION

Ginnie de In Soul me demandait récemment ce qu'était une solarisation. Je lui ai envoyé un courriel pas très clair, je pense, essayant de lui expliquer ce qu'était une solarisation... Et quelle était la différence avec une postérisation... Comme une image vaut mille mots, voici une solarisation que j'ai faite en chambre noire. C'est évidemment l'image de gauche. J'ai ensuite créé l'image de droite, toujours en chambre noire, en me servant de la solarisation comme d'un négatif. Placée à l'envers sur un papier photo vierge, et exposition de plusieurs minutes. Voilà le résultat. Pour en savoir plus sur la solarisation et la postérisation, suivez les liens vers Wikipédia. Aujourd'hui, on peut obtenir ce genre d'image par Photoshop. Mais ce n'est pas tout à fait la même chose. Et c'est sûrement moins amusant...

Yesterday, I e-mailed Ginnie from In Soul. I tried to explain her the differences between a solarization and a posterisation... I was not very clear, I think... So I decided to show this solarization I made in a darkroom a few years ago. It's the left image. The one at the right was create in the darkroom by using the first one as a negative. On a photo paper with a very long exposition... (Few minutes). And if you want to know the differences between Solarization and Posterisation, follow the links to Wikipedia. Today, you can make those kind of images in Photoshop. But it's not exactly the same... And less fun!

De nombreux groupes défilent égalament au Carnaval... Des musiciens, des danseurs, des clowns, des gens déguisés de toutes sortes de manière. Comme la Parade se déroule la nuit, les conditions de prise de vue sont très difficile. J'aime cependant beaucoup montrer le mouvement dans ces groupes qui défilent très rapidement.

Many groups parade at this Carnival. Some musicians, dancers, clowns, people disguised in all manners. And as the Parade occurs at night, taking picture is not easy. But I like to show people mooving as they pass in front of us very rapidly, in a continuous motion.

CARNAVAL, PREMIÈRE PARTIEWINTER CARNIVAL, FIRST PART

Chaque année, dans la ville de Québec, à la fin de janvier et au début de février, se déroule le Carnaval! Hier soir (samedi), Clo, Gene et moi avons décidé d'assister à la première Parade du Carnaval. La deuxième, qui se déroule une semaine plus tard marque la fin des festivités. Je ne participe jamais à cette activité, mais cette année, j'ai décidé d'y aller pour prendre quelques photos pour mes amis blogueurs. Je vous présenterai donc en trois parties quelques images prises durant cette joyeuse soirée. :o)

Each year, in Quebec City, from the end of January to the beginning of February, The Winter Carnival celebrates the mid-winter time. Yesterday night (Saturday) I decided to go to the "Parade" with Clo and Gene, for the first time in many years. This was the First Parade and the Second one, one week later is the last big celebration of this event. This year, I wanted to show my blogfriends some pic of this joyful happening. I will post the best pics I've taken in three parts. Cause there are many... :o)

Cette image a été prise avec une petite caméra jetable. Elle est donc très imparfaite. Mais j'ai toujours aimé le mouvement qu'on y retrouve. La photo a été prise à Expo-Québec, il y a quelques années...

Si je vous montre cette petite photographie, c'est en fait pour vous parler du maître de la photo de fête foraines: Mr JK. J'ai connu Jeff par Blogger il y a quelques mois et je le considère maintenant comme un ami (comme plusieurs d'entre vous, chers blogueurs). Avant-hier, JK a posté plusieurs images de gens travaillant dans les fêtes foraines: Les "Carnies". On pourrait comparer les photos de Mr. K à plusieurs grands photographes, comme Cartier-Bresson, Karsh ou Philippe Halsman, mais il a vraiment son propre style. Allez voir ses images. Elles sont selon moi magnifiques!

But if I show it to you, that's because I want to talk about the real master of "The Carnies", Mr JK. I've known Jeff by Blogger a few months ago and I now consider him as a friend (like many or you, dear blogfans). Two days ago, JK has posted many images of people working in those fairs: The Carnies. One could compare Mr K with some great photographs like Cartier-Bresson, Karsh or Philippe Halsman, but Jeff has is own style. Go see his pics. Those are MAGNIFIQUES!
